Waiuku Primary kids tackle the Weetbix TRYathlon

23 keen kids from Waiuku Primary School made their presence felt at the Manukau Weetbix TRYathlon on Wednesday.

After months of training, the students loaded up their bikes, prepared all of their transition gear and headed for Mountfort Park to join over 2000 other children at the event. The Waiuku Primary team covered all age ranges right through from age 7 to 13 and was the largest team from the area.
“We are hugely proud of the efforts these kids have put into their training. They have biked, run and swum to build up their fitness in readiness for the event and the medals they received at the finish line, were very well deserved”, said Simon Drewery, Principal of Waiuku Primary School.
Some of the students were taking part for their third year running, whilst others were newbies and were amazed at the volume of kids taking part. Sporting celebrities such as Irene van Dyk handed out the medals and all competitors received a free hearty Weetbix breakfast. The Manukau event was the starting event for the series which runs across the country until April next year.
