The team from Pukekohe Swimming Club performed brilliantly coming in 5th overall in the points table.
The stand out performers were Zeal Jones and Janaye Burns. Zeal contested 12 races in the ten year Boys category and won 11 gold medals and one silver medal. He also improved his personal best time in 11 of the races.
Janaye contested 12 races in the ten year Girls category and won nine gold medals and three silver medals.
Overall the Pukekohe swimmers improved their personal best times in 68% of their races.
There were also 18 extra swims qualified for the New Zealand Junior National Championships.
PSC also had three new swimmers join the NZ junior’s qualifiers, Olivia Nichol, Amelia De Latour and Thomas Murray.
Meg Grey qualified for Div 2 Championships in Invercargill.
Swimmers who had 100% personal best times were Max Brears, Zahn Cooney, Thomas Murray, Jacob Kearns, Olivia Nichol, Jaime Skilton, Darnika Howe, Abbie Gibson and Aria Murray.
Achieving a top ten placing at the meet were; Sam Belsham, Max Brears, Janaye Burns, Zahn Cooney, Scarlett Goldsworthy, Darnika Howe, Zeal Jones, Keara Kiernan Erb, Thomas Murray, Abby Swain and Robson Wallace.
It was a long meet but all of the swimmers performed well and supported each other. They were a credit to their club. Coaches Jim, Maki and Sue were delighted with their achievements.
We had a lot of younger swimmers that were competing at this level for the first time. They really stepped up and most of them achieved a top 16 placing. We were delighted with their effort, their team spirit and their focus.
The coaches are excited to see their progress at the Counties meets coming up over the next two months.
