Shop Local and Shop Fair Trade

Trade Aid is a truly unique not-forprofit New Zealand based fair trade organisation which goes above basic fair trade standards – the Trade Aid shop located in the Pukekohe Plaza (opposite Farmers) has been open for almost two years.

Manager of the Pukekohe store Trish Douglas says that her passion for the products and the artisans continues to grow. “Every product tells a story and we really like knowing and telling these stories. Having our in store Kiosk with photos, information and videos about our producers helps us to tell that story to our customers and it’s great for our customers to see where the products come from – a wonderful learning tool for all ages.
“Like all Trade Aid stores, we are made up of paid and volunteer staff. I am grateful for the hours our volunteers give up to be part of the team (20 in total) at the Pukekohe store. “
Trade Aid purchase craft and food products from over 60 trading partners, which represent hundreds of thousands of small farmers and artisans in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Palestine and the Pacific.
“We work to change the lives of these producers through an alternative way of doing business – a fairer way. Our organisation exists purely to support the people we trade with – the world’s more disadvantaged producers. We believe that trade, if organised and regulated properly, can lift the world’s poor out of poverty,” said Trish.
Last year Trade Aid was certified under the WFTO Guarantee System, a system which promises fair trade compliance throughout an organisation’s entire supply chain. “By shopping at Trade Aid you are making a difference to the lives of our artisans, we want to help bring meaningful and sustainable change to the lives of all the talented people we trade with.”
“Hand Made Change – At Trade Aid we’re all about change. We’re helping talented people around the world to improve their lives through fair trade.”
