Pukekohe racer eyes Championship title

Pukekohe Formula Masters Series driver, and Waikato University Student Taylor Cockerton is placed second overall on the points table after reaching podium placings in the third round of the 2017 China series.
After three races at the Zhuhai International Circuit, in China, he also came away with a win, second and fourth places. He now sits behind China's Daniel Lu for championship title contention.
In the team standings, Taylor's team Cebu Pacific Air by Pinnacle Motorsport are sitting in second.
"It was a bit of an up and down weekend," he said.
"We had a difficult first race as we were taken out. A massive thank you to PRT for giving me a great car, and being really supportive all weekend. We’ve got a good haul of points in the bag, I think it’s a good start to the championship."
In the first race he came second behind Daniel Lu. Taylor won his second race, where he started from third after qualifying. In the third race, he qualified fourth and came in fourth.
"I wasn't always the quickest driver in the wet, so my focus was on finishing the race and gathering points. We were gifted some easy positions which made it even better," he said.
Taylor went into the third round of the Formula Masters Series with one win and five podium places from the previous rounds at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
“I’m really happy with the result, more points and I have moved into second in the championship.”
The penultimate round of the Formula Masters Series will take place at Zhuhai International Circuit on 28-30 July, before the final round at Shanghai International Circuit in September.
"The season has been going well so far and I'm still aiming for the title in Formula Masters,” he says. "I'm looking forward to continuing the championship fight in a month's time."
