Police Report

By Sergeant Graeme Wood, Waiuku Police

This week staff had to spend a lot of time dealing with youths who were committing crime around town.
One 16 year old youth has been referred to Youth Aid in relation to stealing a bike which was recovered at a local address.
Another 14 year old was warned for Possession of Cannabis.
Another 15 year old youth was arrested and appeared in Youth Court in relation to damaging school property, trespassing and burglary. This incident has caused considerable damage and cost the school concerned thousands of dollars.
This is a reminder that children and youths need to be monitored. We should all know what our kids are up to and who they are they with. This may prove hard during the school holidays but it is what any responsible parents should be doing. Children or youths that are left to their own devices with no supervision can easily make some poor decisions or be led astray by keeping the wrong company.
We also dealt with a 25 year old male this week who was repeatedly targeting one of the local roadside stalls selling produce. With some help from locals this male was identified, arrested and is due to appear in Court on several theft charges.
Lastly, with the festive season upon us and a lot of people travelling, remember it is not how fast you get somewhere, it is about getting there and back safely.
Take regular breaks or share the driving if travelling long distances. Don’t take unnecessary risks and don’t drink and drive.
It’s the holiday season so slow down and enjoy it.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all the team at the Waiuku Police.
Cheers Woody
