Live in the 2-3-5 ready to rock

It’s been more than three years in the making, but the final stage of the Waiuku Skatepark upgrade is so close, the skateboarders can smell it.
Some of New Zealand’s heavyweight performers are coming to Waiuku to give fundraising the final push it needs at, ‘Live in the 2-3-5’ at the Waiuku Skatepark on Saturday 24 February.
Skatepark upgrade committee member Catherine Dacey said, “There have been some changes to the upgrade design over time but the senior users have been involved and are incredibly happy with the final result. We have had some great organisations and individuals help us over the years with donations of funds and/or their time. Now that the end is near, we are so lucky to still have the support of some passionate local community members who are committing to this final event.”
She said there will be something for everyone at ‘Live in the 2-3-5’. “We have some amazing items in the silent auction, a skateboard competition run by Simon Thorp of Young Guns Skate School, a skateboard demo from New Zealand’s National Skateboarding Champ Lenard Tejada (also an Olympic prospect for Team NZ for the 2020 Olympics in Japan) and the SOUF SIDE skate team, live local music from DJ Downtown Brown (Sunshine Sound System), Karim, TLA and other local artists, food, drinks and kids entertainment.”
DJ Downtown Brown said “I’m keen to support the community efforts to give our young people some fun and constructive things to do here in Waiuku.”
The talented P-Digss (Shapeshifter) will also be the MC for the day and he and Franklin resident, Karl Kippenberger (Shihad) are kindly doing whatever it takes to maximise the upgrade funds—even offering selfies to those willing to make a donation.
Steph King, who is also helping out, said “Fundraising for this event has already shown me how much support there is and how keen people are to see a great park get built.”
The event will run from 10am – 4pm, kicking off with the skateboard competition.
