Letter: carved for rest

In response to your item about the carved tree trunk on Karioitahi Beach. Regular beach walkers will recognise this log, as in fact it has been in situ for at least a year, possibly longer. The lovely carvings have been added to over that time, including the seats! I presume it was washed out in a high tide, then back in again on a different part of the beach.

I have photos of my son sitting on it mid last year. No doubt you will have a barrage of other emails and photos saying the same thing. We could always start an urban myth about the mysterious and magical Rangiwaea people and their mystical carving prowess…what hidden message were they trying to pass on to us?

L. Jameson.
