Hon. Todd McClay Visits Franklin

Hon. Todd McClay, paid a visit to Pukekohe last Tuesday, to meet with local businesses and to attend a public meeting which was hosted by MP for Hunua, Andrew Bayly.
Mr McClay is MP for Rotorua and holds a number of senior portfolios, including Minister of Revenue, Minister for State Owned Enterprises, Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Associate Minister of Trade.
The Minister visited with two Pukekohe businesses, Balle Brothers and FRENZ Free Range Egg Company, and then spoke to a group of about 40 people in a Public Meeting.
The business visits involved representatives from NZ Trade and Enterprise, who have been working with them to expand their exports.
The public meeting focused on the plans for the government to move towards a simpler tax regime.
There is a significant transformation of the New Zealand Inland Revenue system coming. A new IT platform is under development for Inland Revenue to make it much easier for individuals and companies to interact with the Department and pay their taxes, including payroll, GST and provisional tax. Mr McClay said he was genuinely interested in what the public, businesses and industry experts have to say about this modernisation process.
Todd McClay has a family connection with Franklin, in particular with Waiuku and Glenbrook. His parents grew up in the area, and he went to Wesley College.
Andrew Bayly said the visit to Pukekohe was part of an on-going programme of inviting senior Ministers to the Electorate. It follows the visit by Hon. Nikki Kaye four weeks ago to discuss schooling and educational issues, given the significant population forecast within the Electorate.
