High rollers open bowling season for Buckland club

The greens were in excellent condition for the opening of the Buckland Bowling Club on Saturday 22 September. Encouragingly, a number of probable and definite new members came along providing the club with the best opening day attendance in some years. Invited guests arrived for the 2pm official opening, these included Andrew Bayly, Bill Cashmore, Peter Hayward, President of Bowls Counties Manukau 2010, and Martin MacKenzie representing Bowls New Zealand. The President of Buckland Bowling Club, Paul Gibbons invited Life Member Kath Michie to raise the club flag and Life Members Maureen Ferris and George Harris to send up a jack and the first bowl and then the guests all had a turn at sending up a bowl with some widely different levels of success.  To find out more about the club,  contact club secretary, Diane Main on 09 238 6863.
