The Waiuku Lions Club are thrilled to again be offering the experience of a lifetime to one lucky local young adult.
Applications are now being accepted for people aged 17 to 21 who would like to go on a Lions Youth Exchange and stay with a host family in Australia for five weeks during December 2017/January 2018.
The cultural exchange takes place over the school/tertiary holidays. It’s an opportunity to adapt to a different family situation and a foreign environment which, while challenging, is a hugely rewarding experience.
Maddison Hare (pictured below) took up the challenge last year, “It was great to experience something different—to travel on my own and gain more independence, and I loved experiencing a different type of family. My host family had little kids which was so great to be around at Christmas.”
Lions’ member Allan Standing, says the Clive Baldwin Memorial Fund will cover the usual trip cost of $1500. “You can choose to go to New South Wales, Queensland or Victoria.” He encourages anyone with enquiries to contact the Waiuku Lions. “We’d love to talk it through with you.”
Applications need to be submitted by Saturday 30 September on the official application form which you can find on the Lions website: http://www.lionsclubs.org.nz/Clubs/Activities/Youth-Exchange Alternatively those interested can contact Allan on 09 235 6067 or message the Lions on Facebook at ‘Waiuku Lions’ to ask questions or request an emailed form.
