An employee at Pukekohe's Curry Leaf Restaurant says she was forced to work overtime for no extra pay as she feared she would lose her work visa.
The 23 year old woman from India says she was contracted to work 30 hours over five days, however she was often required to work 60-70 hours over seven days. This resulted in her being paid around $7 per hour.
She said she also collapsed on the job, but was made to continuing working.
Other colleagues supported her claims, including her employer who admitted that she did work more than her contracted hours.
The complainant later sought help from her union.
The woman is no longer working at the restaurant and says she was dismissed with less than a week's notice, after trying to take a day off sick.
Her employer however, says she was an unreliable employee and that he paid for her accommodation and food.
