Tuakau netballer meets heroes

A young Tuakau netballer was at the heart of the action at the ANZ Premiership match on Monday 17 April, as they stood side by side with Southern Stars captain Leana De Bruin and Central Pulse captain Katrina Grant in front of a stadium of fans.

Ann Linacre, 11, along with Warkworth netballer, Dana Hulsman, won the opportunity to meet the team captains and high five each of the players as they were called onto centre court at the start of the match, through the ANZ Future Captains competition.

Ann, who attends Junior Tuakau College, was so excited before the game, she couldn’t wait for the game to begin.

“It was really cool getting to high five all of the players and I thought the Stars warm up was really impressive—I think I’ve learnt quite a lot.”

ANZ Head of Sponsorship Susan McGregor says ANZ is passionate about supporting netball at every level, from the elite to the grassroots.

“That’s why we’re giving 94 children from across around New Zealand the chance to meet their sporting heroes at each of the ANZ Premiership matches this season.

“We’re very pleased we’re able to offer this amazing opportunity to young Kiwis and hope that by offering them the chance to stand on centre court with their heroes it will help inspire them to achieve their dreams” says Ms McGregor.

The match saw the Pulse beat the Stars 53-44.
