Waiuku Coastguard involved in search for missing man
Waiuku Coastguard are among one of the many emergency services searching for a missing man in the Manukau Harbour since yesterday.
Police received a call from a fisherman who found an empty dinghy in the Papakura Channel at around 4:30pm yesterday, Wednesday 19 April.
Police notified Coastguard, with rescue boats from Papakura, Waiuku and Titirangi attending the call out.
Four vessels searched the harbour, with Papakura Rescue One finding an eight year old girl just before 7.30pm last night. Her father is still missing, and emergency services are continuing to search.
Coastguard have said the girl was cold and tread water for more than two hours. She was taken to hospital by ambulance, after being rescued from the water and is now in a stable condition.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Police Eagle Helicopter, Coastguard volunteers and Police launch deodar are still involved in the search, although officials have said it is unlikely the man is still alive.
