On Saturday 8 April the IMG Waiuku Women’s Rugby team travelled to Mount Roskill to take on Suburbs.
The Suburbs team completely outplayed Waiuku with a fine display of running rugby to take out the game by 51 – 7. It has shown the Waiuku side the standard they are going to have to achieve if they are to accomplish their goals this year.
The Suburbs backline were able to outpace Waiuku on many occasions and they thoroughly deserved their win. Waiuku kept on trying right to the end though and their try came late in the game after Sage Davis split the defence with a 50m break, and then good support play saw Koroneihana Tawhaio finish off a great team try.
Others to play well on an otherwise disappointing day were Caitlin Pirini who made numerous strong runs on the wing and up front Christine Rahiri made a determined effort to get her team headed in the right direction.
The team now have two weeks remaining to prepare for their competition, which begins on 22 April.
