Leah Fry from the Port Waikato Fire Brigade brings you this round up from March and early April.
'So far we are up to 15 call outs where we were able to attend this year. March has bought us four medicals, two storm related call outs, one where we had no crew, and an horrific house fire in The Port.
Luckily no one was hurt but unfortunately the house is completed destroyed. The moral of the story is be extra careful with candles.
A small team of us ventured to Onewhero to compete in the Onewhero Fire Fighters' Games on 5 March. We had a great team and were very happy with our performance. Especially as two of our four team members were recruits.
Whilst the recent storm saw three slips on the Port Waikato Tuakau Bridge Road and we were cut off for about 36 hours, thankfully we still had power and the community and Port Waikato Community Response Group ensured no problems arose.
There was only one call out for this storm which was flooding related due to internal gutters not handling the quantity of water!'
