Pukekohe's Taylor Cockerton had his first round in the 2017 Formula Masters Series in at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia over the weekend.
Of the four races, the 19 year old claimed his first race win, two podium finishes, and one DNF after being taken out of the race by another driver.
Taylor now sits in third place overall, behind China's Daniel Lu and Malaysia's Daniel Frost.
Taylor's win over the weekend was the first in nearly two years. It was a battle to the finish line, after he lost pole position in the last lap, but managed to pull ahead to win. He also got a second and third place in his other races.
Taylor had big goals to win the round, he said before the race, however admitted he didn't know the other competitors so would see what happened on the track.
Earlier in the year, Taylor finished a successful season in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series, which saw him finish seventh place overall, up two from his last season.
Round two of the Formula Masters China Series is also at Sepang Circuit from 5-7 May.
