It was a special day at Waiuku Rugby Sports Park with the newly laid turf on our No1 field being played on for the first time this season, perfect weather and the celebration of our own Sam Cole playing his 150th game for the club. The game kicked off with Ardmore dominating and they took every opportunity given with ball in hand to rack up 34 points in the first half to Waiuku 3 points. Injuries fell on the Waiuku forward pack, with lock John Streamer and loosey Sam Daniels forced to leave the field with ankle injuries. Half time brought a change in the Waiuku team, with Sam Cole as captain leading from the front. He pushed his team with pride and passion and they fought back hard. Bryce Vaireka dotted down 2 tries, and 2 more went to the speedster Tim Lever and the young Mason Hughes, who was a late call up only 20 minutes before kick-off, giving Waiuku a bonus point. Jack Hardie slotted 2 conversions and a penalty which saw Waiuku finish with a respectable 27 points. Coach Alex Leger said that the heart and passion showed in the second half is a true reflection of what Waiuku Rugby is all about. Man of the match went to Bryce Vaireka for his 2 tries and all round outstanding contribution to the game
