Pukekohe's Emerson Vincent won heats at the Manawatu and TRC Toyota WPKA Goldstar Series held at Kaitoke, Wellington on Sunday 5 March.
The young karter was up against many other racers including Christchurch's Louis Sharp.
President for the Wellington Provincial Karting Association, Chris Rooney said there were more than 80 entries in the competition in March, with the junior classes really standing out.
"Vortex Mini ROK is our biggest single class with more than 20 entries. Then we have 15 in Rotax Max Junior and 13 in Cadet ROK," Chris says.
Emerson won the standalone Cadet ROK class Grand Prix race where he battled against other drivers aged six to ten.
However he wasn't able to snatch a win from Louis Sharp.
Emerson now sits in second place in the WPKA Goldstar Series, with 114 points.
The next round will take place in Hastings, in May, but before that, Emerson will be taking part in KartSport New Zealand's annual Sprint Nationals in Invercargill over Easter.
