Awhitu Golf open day

The annual Cocky’s Corner Golf Open Day was again a highly successful event, with visiting players coming from far and wide to assemble a competitive field.

Former golf professional and scratch golfer, Douglas Millington, was the leading player of the day shooting a three under par 67, only three shots from the course record.

Fellow Hukanui Club member Barry Waldron had the leading nett score of 65 in division one with local player Cliff Hobbs’ nett 64 being the top score in the division 2 section.

Regular visitor Brenda Tulp achieved a milestone by breaking 90 for the first time, her best round resulting in her winning the ladies division with a 64 nett score.

The winners were as follows: Best Gross: Douglas Millington, 67; Best Nett Division One: Barry Waldron, 65; Best Nett Division Two: Cliff Hobbs, 64; Best Nett Ladies: Brenda Tulp, 64; Best Stableford Division One: Daniel Milford, 40 points; Best Stableford Division Two: Brian Meikle, 39 points; Longest Drive Men: Douglas Millington; Longest Drive Ladies: Julie Duncan; Nearest Pins, Hole 10: Les Rehm; Two’s, Brenda Tulp, Jerry Kuggeleijn, Douglas Millington, Les Rehm, Steve Butler.
