Pokeno School field was packed with vintage cars on Saturday 25 February, as the annual Austin Register of New Zealand National Rally rolled into town.
From Friday 24 February to Sunday 26 February, around 40 vehicles from across the nation graced the Franklin roads for the rally, which was hosted by the Auckland Branch of the Vintage Austin Register of New Zealand. It is held once every two years in the North Island.
On Saturday, the Post was able to have a chat to Merv and Judy Stowers from Papakura, who were just one of the many enthusiasts that took part.
"We are having such a great time. It is so neat to see so many people taking part. We even have someone from Australia here for the event," said Merv.
Merv and Judy were driving in their 1930 Austin 7, while Bruce and Vicky Adin from Browns Bay were travelling in their 1937 Austin Cambridge.
"Pokeno was such a great spot, and the cars really looked the part all lined on the field. There certainly is a great range on display," said Bruce.
After only a brief stop, the group were then off to the local marae, before eventually making their way to the Waiuku museum.
