New farmers market right here in Franklin
What began as an idea discussed with friends soon became a reality—there is now a farmers market at the Red Shed Palazzo Cafe in Drury.
At the beginning of February, the owners of the Red Shed Cafe and Albert’s Kitchen, Pukekohe, discussed the idea of starting up a farmers market in Franklin.
With plenty of available space at the Red Shed, co-owner Kristina Smith, said it would be a great idea. A week later the markets were going full steam ahead.
“I didn’t expect them to take off like they did,” laughs Kristina. “But Albert and Adrienne had other ideas.”
Albert and Adrienne Psaros, owners of Albert’s Kitchen which is renowned for their artisan breads, placed the idea on social media and soon had stall holders contacting them wanting to be involved.
“We have long standing history with markets, and originally began the Parnell and Hamilton ones. We thought the initiative would be great for Franklin, as we have so many unique businesses here that could take part,” says Adrienne. “So far, we have a great variety that isn’t just food and we are hoping that it will become a year round success.”
The farmers markets have been held every weekend from 9.30am until 2pm and keep growing in size.
From food, to fresh produce and hand made jewellery, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The markets also offer the chance for locals to showcase their vocals, as live entertainment has been provided nearly every weekend since last month’s opening.
What makes them even more unique is that they are located in the heart of the Red Shed Cafe.
“We are loving having the markets here. It all adds to the experience for those who are visiting the Red Shed Cafe,” says Kristina.
