This term Te Kohanga Primary School welcomed their new principal.
Robyn Driver started at the school three weeks ago, following the retirement of the previous principal, Carol Harwood at the end of 2016. Mrs Driver was born in Auckland and has family in Awhitu and the Hawkes Bay. She lives in Pukekohe with her husband, Tom, who is a Police Officer in Manurewa.
Mrs Driver comes to Te Kohanga from Glenbrook School, where she spent three years as deputy principal.
Glenbrook is a successful primary school with 250 students and promotes future focused teaching and learning, two areas Mrs Driver hopes to develop at Te Kohanga.
“I believe technology has an important role in a child’s education, helping them to make links to their own world, the New Zealand and international community.”
One of the drawcards to Te Kohanga School for Mrs Driver was the small rural community and the opportunity to provide programmes that support each child as an individual.
“I believe working and teaching in a small school allows every child to be heard, and provides greater opportunities to support each student in developing their strengths and interests. My dream for Te Kohanga Primary School is that it grows in size and presence in the community and is seen as a beacon for children’s education in the area.”
