The ongoing trial for the murder and kidnap of Waiuku man Lance Murphy has made headlines this week.
Crown prosecutors have rubbished the accused Michael Waipouri's claims that Mr Murphy was a hitman and serial killer who had killed ten people, including his wife, who passed away due to cancer.
Gareth Kayes, Crown prosecutor ignored Waipouri's claims, saying he never mentioned the hitman allegations in Police interviews. He also showed evidence of a doctor's examination which found nothing suspicious about Mr Murphy's wife's death.
Waipouri claimed he killed Mr Murphy as an act of self-defence as he was out to get him.
Mr Murphy disappeared in 2015, his body was found a month later.
Co-accused Steven Gunbie is also on trial for kidnapping.
The trial at the Auckland High Court continues.
