The police are appealing to the public to come forward with information in what can only be described as a cowardly attack.
On Sunday 5 February 2017 at approximately 3.40am, a 69-year-old male was in his caravan at the Tuakau Cosmopolitan Carpark when he was woken by two males attempting to break into his caravan.
He has gone outside to investigate and was then been set upon by the two men and badly assaulted. He received serious injuries to his face and was transported to Middlemore Hospital.
Crimesquad staff spoke with the victim in hospital.
Later that morning the victim’s bike was reported stolen.
“Enquiries are on-going into both the assault and the theft of the victim’s bike. We are currently canvassing the surrounding areas to see if there is any available CCTV footage. The offenders are described as being Maori in their late teens to early 20s, one is reported to have been wearing a black jacket with white arms and gold lettering,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Mal Hassall.
