Young Pukekohe karter Emerson Vincent will be gaining airpoints as well as championship points as he travels between Australia and New Zealand as part of the Australian Kart Championship for 2017.
The first round of the championship took place at Mount Sugarload Raceway in Newcastle, New South Wales.
Emerson was one of six New Zealanders who went to Australia to take part in the round.
He is the only kiwi racer to compete in the Cadet 9 class, for six to nine year olds.
The series opener, held over the weekend from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 February, attracted 275 entries from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the UK.
Emerson had a few tough heats, his highest placing for the four heats was eighth.
Racing was abandoned on Saturday afternoon, due to the heat, but was resumed on Sunday morning for the final heats and finals.
Emerson came 14th in the Cadet 9 final.
The next round is in March in Geelong, Victoria.
