The Women's Street Smart self defence workshops have been taught throughout New Zealand for just over seven years and in February the workshop will be in Waiuku. The free weekend workshop is open to females aged 13 and older, and is being held on the 11 February at the Glenbrook School Hall.

This hands-on workshop teaches females how to deal with worse case scenarios, when all awareness, avoidance and de-escalation has failed and the attacker suddenly turns physical. The Women's Street Smart workshop deals with the most common types of attack, with the whole workshop building up to rape defence and scenario drills.

"The workshop can be both physically and mentally challenging to some and quickly pulls people out of their comfort zone" say Charlie Riley, lead instructor. "…at the end of it, the women come away empowered and infused with self defence techniques and are more knowledgeable regarding their personal safety"

The Women's Street Smart syllabus is also being taught in schools, colleges, Universities, businesses and non-profit organisations in Auckland.

Along with the weekend workshops Charlie also has two free weekly classes running in Maraetai and Auckland City, with the possibility of another opening in Manurewa later this year.
