Emergency services kept busy over the weekend
Local emergency services had an extremely busy weekend, attending six separate incidents from Friday through to Sunday.
The following is a timeline of when the incidents occurred, and the details surrounding them.
Pukekohe fatality
Police ambulance and fire responded to reports of a crash where it’s understood that one car had hit a tree on Morgan Road in Pukekohe. At 8:10pm on the evening of Friday 20 January, police were able to confirm that two people died in the crash on Morgan Road. Both of the occupants were male. The Serious crash unit were in attendance and are still investigating.
Debris causes Waiuku Crash
At 12:28am Saturday 21 January, Police received a report of a vehicle flipping after hitting a parked car on Racecourse Road, between Carbine Lane and Kauri Drive, Waiuku. The Post Newspaper had been given reports that the driver had been texting, however, were told by a police spokesperson that there was debris was on the road. The driver was female .
Fire and Ambulance were also called to the scene.
Crash causes power outage in Tuakau
A collision involving two cars and a power pole occurred at approximately 1:05am Saturday 21 January, on George Street, Tuakau.The vehicle caught fire and power lines were damaged. Counties Manukau Police, Fire and Ambulance attended.
Two people, one being the driver, were taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The Serious Crash Unit are still investigating.
Reports of power pole on fire
Around 9:00pm on the evening of Saturday 21 January, the Police were called after concerns were raised about fireworks being lit too close to the motorway. The location was a car park close to the motorway near the Beaver Road East on-ramp and Ridge Road off-ramp. However, the Police did not attend.
At 9:35pm, Police were called to assist the fire service following reports of a power pole on fire, outside a fruit shop in the same area.
After speaking to a Police spokesperson, it doesn’t appear there is an investigation into the incident at this stage, and they cannot confirm if it was related to the fireworks incident earlier that evening.
Tree falls on vehicle in Drury
The wet and wild weather caused a Serious Motor Vehicle incident on the Southern Motorway in Drury in the late evening of Saturday 21 January.
At about 9.50pm, Police were advised that a large tree had fallen across the south bound lanes and impacted a vehicle.
The vehicle had seven occupants with several sustaining injuries.
A male in his mid 40s was seriously injured and was transported to Middlemore hospital. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and there is no further information at this time.
Crash at Karaka
An incident involving two vehicles, one of which went off the road, occurred at approximately 11:20am on the morning of Sunday 22 January.
Ambulance attended and two people had minor injuries.
