‘Golden’ day for Sunset Beach Lifeguards
No mercy was shown by the Sunset Beach Lifeguards, as they set over the weekend to retain their title at the 2017 Harcourts Northern Region IRB Championships. Held at Ruakaka on Saturday, the conditions were described as flat and fast, leaving no room for error.
However, this was no problem for Sunset’s men’s and women’ s teams, as they steamrolled their competition by taking out all of the 13 gold medals on offer in each category.
Eight teams competed in the Senior Mens, U21 Mens and Women’s competition, while also taking part in the Tube Rescue, Mass Rescue, Single Rescue and Assembly race.  This was followed by the Teams race.
Sunset were dominant with 13 Gold medals, six Silver and five Bronze, with organisers describing it as a Golden Day for the Sunset Beach Lifeguards.
It has been said that the team behind Trust Waikato Sunset Beach Lifeguard Service are incredibly proud of their lifeguard’s achievements, who have spent the last several weeks preparing for this event.
